Mary Ann Theis, Artist and Teacher
Mary Ann was born in Cleveland, Ohio and has lived in Illinois and Texas before settling in
Florida. Over the years she has traveled around the U.S. , Canada, Europe and Asia. The
influences of these countries have inspired her work especially since one son lives in
Singapore with his family. She especially likes to combine her love of photography with her
travels. Needless to say she has many photos and memories to reference for her paintings.
She used her degree in education to teach several art forms including enameling on copper
and decorative painting. Mary Ann won awards in both areas including having an ornament she
designed selected for the White House Christmas tree and an honorable mention in a national
design contest held by Plaid, an art supply company.
Over the decades she has studied with more than two dozen well known artists in both the
fields of decorative painting and watercolor media. Ten years ago she ventured into watercolor
quite by accident and became fascinated with the way paint and paper work together.
She owned a local gallery with several partners for a number of years to help showcase the
work of other artists. Mary Ann is a member of the Florida Watercolor Society, Brevard
Watercolor Society and is Past President of the Titusville Art League.
One of her awards includes winning the first " Tales of Titusville" limited edition print contest.
Mary Ann also teaches beginning watercolor with enthusiasm and dedication to local students.
